Are we getting stupider?
I'm not sure "stupider" is even a word, so maybe by me using it, we are. Getting stupider, I mean. Or, risk averse? Lazy? Has THIS ever happened?

This is crazy. "Warning: Be sure mirror is not in a position where it can reflect sunlight, reflected sunlight can cause fire."
When you show people stuff like this, they usually say, "well, it probably happened and someone lost a case because of it. Lawyers, you know."
Really? A judge or jury saw fit to allow a person to sue the Conair Corporation because that person had a fire start because the Con-Air mirror was hung in a place where the reflected sunlight caused a fire? I seriously doubt you could even get reflected sunlight to start a fire without magnifying or focusing is somehow. Even if it did, there was no culpability for the person who chose where to hang it? Or, for placing it in a position to reflect sunlight on combustable material? Wow. If so, we're completely screwed. Completely. If THAT is a plausible reason for a rational person -- a judge who no doubt had to work hard to rise to his/her position -- to allow a lawsuit, we are completely and totally screwed as a society. If that's not a signal, nothing is.
What I'm hoping is that there is some sort of secret competition by lawyers and such to make these ridiculous warnings and it's all just a bunch of fun. If that's happening it means we're loosening up again, and if that's the case, then I think we are complete and totally going to be awesome forever. If lawyers are plotting secret games of "top this ridiculous warning label" and sneaking it out there, then we're back on track as a society. If that's not a signal, nothing is.
