McClain Disc Golf Park in San Antonio, TX

I met a buddy of mine to play McClain Disc Golf Park in San Antonio, TX on March Friday afternoon.  It was a beautiful day.  It was my buddy's third time playing, and he did great.

McClain in an easy-to-get-to course pretty much in the middle of town.  Parking is behind an elementary school, so try to get there at times when parents and buses aren't picking up or dropping off kids.  Also, if you partake, leave it because you don't want to be within whatever the federal-drug-crime distances are from schools.  IMHO it's never worth it, but in this case it could be really not worth it.

I liked McClain, it was challenging but not sadistic.  There were some tunnel shots and a section that was out in the open but with some rough you'd have to play out of.  I don't remember any places where you might lose a disc.  I like that; penalize me with a tough shot if I blow it, but don't take my disc, too!  I'd recommend this for any level of player.  Obviously a beginner is going to be hitting a lot of snowmen, though.  In the hot San Antonio summers (and springs and falls for that matter), the shade is likely very welcoming.  There are few holes in the open but a lot in the cover of trees.

Not really even a tunnel on this one, but I dueced it.

The tee pads are concrete, the signs are excellent (and in existence...) and there are only a few walkers, no picnickers, to watch out for.  This course is well-designed and apparently is in memory of a disc golfer (Bryan McClain) who died in 2007.  If you have business in San Antonio, it's not far from the airport.  If you are swinging by on Saturdays, the minis are apparently well-attended.

More shots, passed along by my friend (he took them on his iphone)

hit the gap and you have a lot of fairway; try to go too big and get wild and you have another long drive on your 2nd shot.

This is a different shot of the hole in the video above. Go left around the big tree behind my buddy and you have a clear but narrow hzyer tunnel.

This is one of the longer (longest?) holes. Up a hill, left into a clearing, play it 30 feet into the edge of the woods. I'd be surprised if more than a few lucky souls have managed a birdie or ace on 13.
